"I had the pleasure of experiencing one of the most interesting and original Happenings, Empty Canvas.
Happenings first appeared in the art world during the mid-twentieth century and popularized by artists
such as Andy Warhol. Empty Canvas is a creation of painter Michael McMath where he pairs music and the visual arts.
His approach is far different than others doing paint performance, in that he does not resort to splash
or action painting, but rather through the use of brushes and palette knives creates a three dimensional
depiction of a particular subject. It is an experience I highly recommend. McMath's approach is an especially
fresh mix of the visual and performing arts."

"We were truly impressed with the Empty Canvas show in our setting, as it appealed to a diverse audience, kept
them engaged and the variety of music appealed to all! The talent of the group and especially painter/singer
Michael McMath is highlighted in this high-energy fun presentation. We hope to involve Empty Canvas in future Dow Gardens’
events and assure anyone who has not seen the show that they are in for a real treat!"
